Samuel Kawuma

Dr. Samuel Kawuma is an Advisor at Total Impact Capital, where he supports the development of innovative and sustainable healthcare financing solutions across sub-Saharan Africa. Since July 2025, he has contributed to baseline analyses and market assessments for sickle cell disease and HIV programs, helping identify investible models that improve access to quality healthcare and strengthen long-term health system sustainability.

A medical doctor, public health specialist, and clinical researcher, Samuel has over 15 years of experience leading HIV, tuberculosis, and non-communicable disease programs across Africa. He has managed multidisciplinary initiatives funded by USAID, CDC, and PEPFAR, partnering with governments and development organizations to strengthen health systems, improve service delivery, and translate research into policy and practice.

As Africa Clinical Research Network Site Coordinator at the Joint Clinical Research Centre, Uganda, he supports multi-center clinical research and evidence generation on infectious and emerging non-communicable diseases. He also serves as Uganda Local Advisory Board Focal Person for the IMARA Program, a multi-country initiative advancing integrated sickle cell disease care in Côte d'Ivoire, Kenya, and Uganda.

Samuel holds an MBChB and Master of Public Health from Makerere University and completed an NIH-funded Implementation Science Fellowship.

Samuel enjoys travel, movies, and mentoring young health professionals.
